Plasma Surface Treatment for Multi-Layer Paper & Cardboard Lamination​

Low-temperature plasma treatment is a ​highly efficient dry process​ that enhances interlayer adhesion in multi-material laminated products (e.g., paper-cardboard-plastic composites). By modifying surface energy and creating nanoscale roughness, plasma activates substrate surfaces without altering bulk properties. This enables ​stronger bonding between dissimilar layers​ (e.g., coatings, films, or bio-based barriers) while ​reducing environmentally harmful adhesives, primers, and solvents by up to 100%​​ in manufacturing processes.

 

Crucially, plasma technology extends beyond production lines. In post-processing stages, it ​significantly improves adhesion for:

  • Printing inks and anti-counterfeiting coatings
  • Water-resistant barriers (e.g., SF₆ plasma for fluorination)
  • Eco-friendly coatings (e.g., plant-oil-based hydrophobic layers)
  • UV-curable adhesives and recyclable sealants
