A corona treatment system consists of a generator, a high-voltage transformer, and a treating machine. The treating machine is essentially a capacitor. The material being treated is placed between electrodes, where the voltage is gradually increased until the corona treatment is achieved. Therefore, corona treatment increases surface oxidation, breaking chemical bonds and creating more hydroxyl groups, carbonyl bonds, and peroxide bonds. This roughens the film surface and reduces surface contamination.
Plastic film is typically placed between rollers and treated with a bipolar substance, with the electrodes positioned several centimeters apart from the surface. Corona treatment decreases over time, influenced by factors including elevated temperature and humidity. Furthermore, post-coating additives are used to reduce surface energy and improve lubricity. Therefore, corona treatment must avoid the formation of lumps and an increase in surface energy that could affect unwinding and winding. Corona treatment is used for various changes in films, and is applicable to polypropylene and low surface energy plastics. When the air gap is increased to 5omm, the voltage is 5600OKHz, so that the corona discharge can be controlled.
